Between 2024 and 2026, the ADAC.io project developed and delivered training materials and workshops on Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI). Led by TU Dortmund University, the work was carried out in close collaboration with consortium partners — the DISARM Foundation and Alliance4Europe on the fact-checker and journalist workshops, and Debunk.org on a workshop dedicated to AI in the context of FIMI. It reached journalists, fact-checkers, researchers, public institutions, civil-society organisations and students.
What has been accomplished:
- A fully developed university course on FIMI, openly available for anyone to teach or adapt,
- Online workshops bringing together counter-disinformation practitioners from dozens of countries,
- A workshop on what AI changes for FIMI analysis,
- Hands-on sessions introducing fact-checkers and journalists to the DISARM framework,
- Conference talks and expert exchanges carrying the project’s findings into the wider community.
These materials make it easier for practitioners and educators to build FIMI expertise in their own organisations, teach the subject without starting from scratch, and apply the project’s concepts and tools in day-to-day work.
The report also includes an annex of slides, workshop screenshots and photographs, so readers can see the training as participants experienced it and reuse what is useful.
This deliverable was edited and authored by Timo Lenk (TU Dortmund University). The training and dissemination work documented here was carried out by a wider team at TU Dortmund University. Christina Elmer, lead of Work Package 4, provided overall guidance and reviewed all training materials and reports. Nico Hornig helped establish connections to the fact-checking community.
